Coordination with the Government

The state government has nominated ERA as Anchor NGO for Champawat district.ERA’s special area of interest has been to organize people around their predominant issues and spur their participation in governance. Local communities are being equipped to negotiate with the government as informed, equal partners.

Over the period, the local initiatives promoted by ERA have emerged into autonomous organizations, sustaining and further promoting the programmes thus launched‘, both by ERA and the Government’

Government development policies were reoriented during 1970’s towards special programmes of rural development with a view to generate income and employment opportunities and to contain the tide of rural migration to the cities. The policies were plagued with ineffective implementation.

Collectively working through the government in the spaces available within constitutional and democratic framework is envisaged to mould public policies that enable the people to make decisions about their own development and eventually move ahead towards ‘fostering true development.’
